Today is the 8th wedding anniversary of my niece Elizabeth (Beth Gorman) and Bob Brown. My husband Gene and I went to Surprise for their wedding on March 8, 2003, and we didn’t want to leave.
The first surprise was the house they live in. It’s a graceful Southwestern mansion high on a hill in the desert. On the day of the wedding, the long, winding driveway that leads up to the house was decorated on both sides with candles in sacks like little lanterns. They were lighted when it got dark – and it looked spectacular.
Every room of that inviting place was ready to receive guests, but the ceremony itself took place outside on a large deck. You can see a little of it on this video. Click here.
The food was out of this world and so was the entertainment. Among other things, a belly dancer danced and a caricaturist did drawings of most of the guests. It was a whee of a party. When it was time to bid our farewells, I got dragged away kicking and screaming.
Since then, Beth and Bob have produced two little people – Virginia and Bill. A third sibling is due during June. One more of their cousins – Kaitlyn Gorman – lives nearby in Phoenix, and here they’re joined by their cousins. Gigi and Jack Dudas from Washington D.C.
I can hardly wait till they get married. I hope I get invited. Those guys sure know how to party.
